Sholom Women is the organization of the women of Peninsula Temple Sholom. We bond together in friendship and sisterhood for programs to benefit PTS and the community, for social activities, to study, pray, and for personal development and Jewish growth. Sholom Women is the collective presence, voice and strength of women. It is the place where women can meet and work together for the benefit of PTS.

Proudly affiliated with the Women of Reform Judaism.

Sholom Women News Update!

This year has been a busy one under the leadership of the Council.

As some of you may be aware, we've had challenges with finding women interested in participating in leadership roles over the years. Our current Leadership Council  felt it was best for Sholom Women to take a "sabbatical" for a year to re-evaluate the next steps for our Sisterhood. We will be taking the time to step back from most of our events/programs that we provide, limiting our energy on a few programs and focusing the majority of our time on a Listening/Kolot Campaign with the women of PTS.  We do plan to continue the Gift Shop, Monthly Mah Jongg with Beth El Women, our Annual Evening Under the Sukkah and Rosh Hodesh Celebrations.

The goal this year is to find what interests the women at PTS and to determine if there is the energy and willingness to participate in a women's group.  We will be conducting several small group discussions and hope that you can join our upcoming conversations which will begin in Fall. We are pleased to inform you that we have three wonderful members joining our new Leadership Council this coming year.  They are Nesa Bergman, Katie Christie and Julie Kraus.  Susan Aptekar, Shari Carruthers and Diane Koss are also remaining on the Council

Thank you again for your support and we are excited to begin this learning experience.  Please feel free to speak to any one of us on the  Leadership Council if you have questions or want to learn more about the upcoming Listening/Kolot Campaign or about Sholom Women!

In Friendship,

Sholom Women Leadership Council

June 2024 Newsletter:

Yasher Koach to our Leadership Council and Committee Chairs. We thank all our Sholom Women Committee Chairs for their hard work and effort this year keeping everything running smoothly and efficiently with passion and purpose. Kuddos to Committee Members Erika Abbott, Doris Abouav, Katie Christie, Margie Isaak, Eileen Marchasin and Arline Radine. We thank Sandra Feder and Debra Ruben for their commitment to continuing our Rosh Hodesh celebrations. Thank you from everyone at Sholom Women and PTS.

With the enormous success of our Gala "In Perfect Harmony" adding to our existing funds, we are pleased to announce that we have given the PTS campership fund $5500 to send our youth to camp this summer. In addition we have infused that fund with $25,000 to ensure our youth can attend camp and leadership opportunities well into the future! Kudos to all our community for supporting us this year and all years in past!

Thanks to our members dues, donations and gift shop sales, Sholom Women was pleased to have donated almost $2500 this past year supporting Sholom Bayit, PTS Welcome Gifts, Bet Mitzvah and Confirmation Gifts, PTS Campership/Scholarship Fund, ORT, and friends of IDF, to name a few. Our year was full of our signature events Rosh Hodesh Celebrations, Membership Event, Hanukkah Party, Mah Jongg Afternoons and Annual Shabbat Service. This past year, we had the joy of gathering as a community as our very own Cantor Yonah Kliger and Emily Jasinsky performed a show-stopper extravaganza at our Gala in February, In Perfect Harmony!

Sholom Women are excited for our year ahead with our new leadership of Nesa Bergman, Katie Christie and Julie Kraus joining Susan Aptekar, Shari Carruthers and Diane Koss. This will be a year of focusing the majority of our time on a Listening/Kolot Campaign with the women of PTS. We do plan to continue the Gift Shop, Monthly Mah Jongg with Beth El Women, An Evening Under the Sukkah and Rosh Hodesh. The goal this year is to find what interests the women at PTS and to determine if there is the energy and willingness to participate in a women's group. We will be conducting several small group discussions and hope that you can join our upcoming conversations.

We wish to thank Linda Citron and Mary Ann Waterman for their years of exceptional service to the Sholom Women Board and Leadership Council. We know they will always be involved in Sholom Women!

Looking ahead to seeing you at the Shabbat Honoring Volunteers led by the Mensches recognizing Volunteer of the Year Kim Oliff, Ner Tamid Heidi Schell and Joel Silk, Trustee to the Year on Friday, June 7th, and at the PTS Annual Meeting Sunday, June 9th. We wish a hearty welcome to Rabbi Julia Berg, all of us at Sholom Women are thrilled to embrace her in our congregation.

From the bottom of our hearts, all of us at Sholom Women thank Rabbi Feder and Cantor Kliger for inspiring us and surrounding us in friendship, prayer and guidance throughout this year.

As always, we wish to thank our PTS Clergy and Staff for the many activities they have scheduled. Please refer to your weekly Schmooze or PTS website for all the upcoming services, programs and events!
