Take action

PTS periodically encourages the community to take action on issues that impact the quality of life in the US and Israel, using our social justice and synagogue values as a guide. Below are current calls to action.

Keep Our Kids Safe online

With the prominent role that digital and social media plays in our lives, stricter rules governing social media platforms must be set to protect the safety and privacy of vulnerable members of society. Families are forced to contend with manipulative design practices that undermine kids’ privacy, keep them online, and amplify risky content. Survey data shows that children are worried about what these social media features do to them, as are their parents, and while platforms promise a safe and appropriately managed environment, they fail to live up to those claims.

We are in a crisis. We cannot let Big Tech regulate itself. Kids’ safety online will only improve if guardrails are put in place and platforms are required to treat children like children. I ask that you help ensure the U.S. plays a leading role in fostering safe online spaces for kids by asking your Senator to co-sponsor the bi-partisan Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) and Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Protection Act 2.0 (COPPA 2.0), and to work with their colleagues to pass these two pieces of legislation as soon as possible

Urge Congress to Protect Fundamental Reproductive Rights

This summer, the Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, overturning Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v Casey. This decision gives the greenlight to abortion bans in states across the country, forcing millions to travel out-of-state to receive the care they need, patients and providers to risk criminalization, and clinics to close. This decision also threatens other fundamental rights, including the right to contraception.

Congress must pass a suite of bills to increase access to reproductive healthcare services including the EACH Act, the Abortion is Health Care Everywhere Act, the Expanding Access to Family Planning Act, the Women’s Health Protection Act, the Right to Contraception Act, and the Ensuring Access to Abortion Act. Urge Congress to protect the fundamental rights to bodily autonomy, privacy, and travel.

Call on Congress to support Refugee Resettlement

The world is facing the worst refugee crisis in global history. More than 82 million people worldwide have left home to escape conflict and persecution, surpassing the previous record of displaced persons after World War II. Refugees—those forced to flee their country for fear of persecution, war, or violence—account for about 26 million of those displaced.

Act now and urge your members of Congress to ensure the U.S. retains its role as a global leader by cosponsoring the GRACE Act.
