CANTOR EMERITUS
Cantor Barry Reich, a fifth generation Cantor, has been serving as Peninsula Temple Sholom’s bar mitzvah and t’filah teacher, as well as choral director, for five decades. He is loved for his approachable style, sense of humor and comforting voice.
The Cantor received his education first at The Breed Yeshiva in Los Angeles and later attended the Ross McKee Conservatory of Music and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree. In 1979, he received his Hazzan commission from the Cantors Assembly of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
In August 2007, Cantor Reich received his rabbinic ordination, or smicha, from the Israel Institute of Religious Studies. He is also a member of the Cantors Assembly.
After 50 years of service to PTS, Cantor Reich became our cantor emeritus in July, 2018.
